Gryon

Gryon is a traditional Swiss chalet village at about 1,130 m altitude in the canton of Vaud, connected to the Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets ski area via the Barboleusaz gondola. It is quieter than neighbouring Villars, with a strong local character and a family atmosphere.

Getting to Gryon

From Geneva Airport count about 90 minutes by car via the A9 motorway to Bex, then the mountain road up through Villars to Gryon. By train the Bex-Villars-Bretaye (BVB) cog railway climbs from Bex to Villars and Bretaye; Gryon is served by the same line at its own station.

Winter in Gryon: skiing & family slopes

Gryon connects to the wider Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets ski area from the Barboleusaz sector, sharing around 125 km of pistes with Villars and Glacier 3000. It is a good base for families and lower-intermediate skiers, with gentler learning slopes at Les Chaux above the village.

Summer in Gryon: hiking & mountain lakes

Gryon is a base for classic Vaud Alps hiking. Trails climb to the Solalex plateau and up to Anzeindaz, at the foot of the Diablerets massif. Mountain biking, e-bike hire, and via ferrata routes are all accessible from the village.

Dining in Gryon

Gryon keeps a traditional Swiss mountain-restaurant character. Local specialities include raclette, fondue, dried meats, and dishes built around Vaud cheeses such as L'Etivaz, served in wooden chalet dining rooms in and around the village square.

Family activities in Gryon

Gryon suits families that prefer a quiet base with easy access to nature. Options include lake Bretaye, alpine playgrounds, sledging in winter, farm visits, and short walks up to Solalex for a mountain picnic.
